Lincolnshire based florist Abigail MacNiven of Petal & Stalk Floral Design revels in detailed, intricate floral designs. And reflecting her rural location, she has created three enchanting arrangements in her signature natural, wild style showcasing British flowers and foliage.
Showstopper Design | Magical Woodland
In Abigail’s magical woodland, set within a hexagonal honeycomb outline, a vintage wooden beehive takes centre stage. It’s embellished with a ‘swarm’ of bees, represented by sunflower seeds, in the shape of the British Isles. Sprouting from the top of the beehive are ferns, chive flowers, flowering nettles, poppy seed heads, flowering parsley and saxifraga.
Abigail says: “I wanted to create a hidden magical space which was full of detail and wild flowers, not too perfectly placed and as natural as possible… almost as if it had been self-seeded.”
Growing on the woodland floor are orlaya grandiflora, foxgloves, alliums, cornflowers, red valerian, dog roses, eremurus, lupins, cow parsley, honeysuckle, geraniums, flowering nettle, saxifraga, rosemary, honesty, flowering hebe, ivy, artichokes, hostas and lavender.
Silver birch trees, resplendent with bird nests, and even the odd bird or two (!), provide the perfect backdrop for this wonderful setting.
Technical Design | Rustic Wreath
Created on a natural base of clematis, this rustic design adorned with physalis, hellebores, rosemary, honesty, seed heads and grasses sits perfectly within the woodland scene.
Abigail says: “I wanted to create something natural, which would dry and still look pretty. I actually have a lot of customers who have wreaths on their doors throughout the year and we refresh them every few months.”
Signature Design | Trailing Bridal Bouquet
White peonies contrast with burgundy cornflowers in this trailing bridal bouquet. These stunning blooms are complemented by accent flowers which include clematis, jasmine, honeysuckle and orlaya grandiflora. Silver birch and honesty provided the foliage element. And the design is finished off beautifully with coloured silk ribbons.
